Introduction of Open hole MFE packer
The Multi-Flow Evaluator is a new approach in drill stem testing .It improves the control during the testing operation and evaluation of test recovery while providing additional information for reservoir analysis.
The tool is operated entirely by up and down motion of the drill stem. this up and down operation provides a more positive means of control than any of the other systems now in use and supplies easily observed surface indications of tool position .An unlimited number of shut-in and flow periods may be taken with this tool while in the hole. The Multi-Flow Evaluator string of tools includes the Multi-Flow Evaluator, MFE By-Pass Valve, and MFE Safety Seal.
The Multi-Flow Evaluator, which has dual control valves, is sequentially opened and closed by up and down motion of the drill stem, the MFE is in the closed position going in the hole and is opened with a time delay, by applying weight to the drill stem when bottom is reached .Following this delay the drill stem drops rapidly one inch, indicating opening. To close the MFE the drill stem is picked up through the free point and moderate tension is applied, then weight is set back down. To re-open the MFE the same operation of up and down motion is repeated.
Features of the Multi-Flow Evaluator
1. Dual control valves provide a safety factor to insure a successful test.
2. A sample of formation fluid taken under dynamic conditions at the end of the final flow period.
3. Positive control of tool operation using only up and down motion of the drill stem.
